I'm writing a guide to build this start to finish, while building the game itself, and will share both when it's ready. It still needs lots of optimization and testing. Despite what influencers say, Astra can't one-shot AAA quality Steam-ready games yet. You have to iterate a bit. That doesn't mean it's not a massive unlock for game dev! Here's what I did this time: - First asked Astra to make the environment more interesting. It added weather, blowing leaves, flickering lights, birds, etc. I didn't specify anything beyond "bring the environment to life." Astra came up with the ideas - Then one big round of telling Astra to take updated screenshots, use image gen to render the highest quality AAA version of each, then do whatever it takes to achieve that quality at 60fps. This ran most of the night. It stopped short of reaching the goal, but still made a huge improvement, especially to lighting and texture detail - A few final passes pointing out small glitches that blocked recording the demo (flickers and weird shadows Astra couldn't spot from screenshots) I dropped from high to medium effort, to try to stretch quota. I started at 85% and am at 10% now, but also had 2 other projects running in parallel. Estimating something like 35-50% of my quota went into this one (on the 200/mo plan).
